One Village, One Product Movement

Japanese: 一村一品運動 - いっそんいっぴんうんどう

A movement in which each region takes the initiative in producing specialty products and promoting regional development. It began in 1980 when Governor Hiramatsu of Oita Prefecture proposed it, and has since spread nationwide. The true aim is to change the way people think about "village development," so that each region can revitalize their region through their own internal initiative. Unique specialty products such as shochu, pickles, dolls, and sweets have been developed, and they have also become the driving force behind the creation of "Furusato Takkyubin." The challenge for the future is whether this can be elevated from specialty product development to true "village development."

各地域が主体的に特産品を作り，地域振興を図ろうとする運動。 1980年大分県の平松知事の提唱に始まり，全国的に広まったもの。真の狙いは，各地が自前の内発力で地域活性化を図ろうという，「むらづくり」の意識改革にある。焼酎，漬け物，人形，菓子など個性的な特産品が開発され，「ふるさと宅急便」を生む原動力ともなった。今後の課題は，これが特産品づくりから真の「むらづくり」に昇華できるかどうかにある。
