...A tax levied on merchants who visited markets held in medieval manors and imperial territories. Ichitsuryo, Ichizayaku, Ichiyakatasen, and Ichibakoujisen are also considered to be types of market money. After the Kamakura period, regular markets were held in many manors and imperial territories, and as the number of merchants visiting them increased, manor lords, kokushi, and jito began to collect various market money as a new source of revenue.
