The younger brother of Kikuchi Dairoku, a mathematician who became the president of Tokyo Imperial University and later the Minister of Education. He became a professor at the Higher Normal School, a professor at First Higher School, and a lecturer at Tokyo Imperial University. After studying in Germany and France for two years from 1899, he became a professor at the same university and received his Doctor of Literature in 1903 (Meiji 36).
