Izumi Yosuke
1829-1900 An inventor from the Meiji period.
Born November 25, 1829. Formerly a samurai of the Fukuoka Domain in Chikuzen. In 1870, he succeeded in manufacturing rickshaws with Suzuki Tokujiro and Takayama Kosuke. In the same year, he received permission from Tokyo Prefecture to manufacture and sell rickshaws, and became the head rickshaw referee. He died September 30, 1890. He was 72 years old. His real surname was Hasegawa.

文政12年11月25日生まれ。もと筑前(ちくぜん)福岡藩士。明治3年鈴木徳次郎,高山幸助と人力車の製作にとりくんで成功。同年東京府より製造と営業の許可をうけ,人力車総行司となった。明治33年9月30日死去。72歳。本姓は長谷川。
