…The region west of the Vistula River mouth is rich in moraine hills and glacial lakes, and the terrain is composed of low hills and lowlands, with the soil generally barren. The main cities are Kartój and Kościerzyna. The Kashubian region came under the control of the Teutonic Knights in the 14th century, but was restored to Polish territory by the Treaty of Toruń in 1466.
