...American film. A popular action movie series that propelled Clint Eastwood to become the biggest "money-making star" since the 1970s. Detective Harry Callahan of the San Francisco Police Department's Homicide Division, a man of absurd energy who wields a Smith & Wesson .44 magnum, "the largest handgun on earth," and pursues violent criminals, sometimes ignoring his superiors' orders and legal procedures, is not only the central character of Eastwood's hero image, but also had such a great influence that it is said to have become the prototype of the detective image in subsequent "police action" movies.

…And in turn, it stimulated the production of westerns in Hollywood (37 westerns were produced in the United States in 1967), and had a major influence on the style of the films. Clint Eastwood (1930- ), who teamed up with director Sergio Leone on For a Few Dollars More (1965) and For a Few Dollars More (1966), returned to Hollywood from an unsuccessful third-rate Hollywood star to an international superstar, starring in Hang 'Em High! (directed by Ted Post, 1967) and High Noon (directed by Don Siegel, 1969), and also directed Strangers in the Wilderness (1972). In addition, films such as The Wild Bunch (1969) directed by Sam Peckinpah (1925-1984), which took the depiction of bloodshed and massacres to the extreme, are considered representative of Hollywood westerns after the Spaghetti Western.
