Ikitsuki [town] - Ikitsuki

Japanese: 生月[町] - いきつき

An old town that occupies the entirety of Ikitsuki Island, located northwest of Hirado Island in Kitamatsuura District, Nagasaki Prefecture. The island is made of basalt covered by Tertiary strata, with sea cliffs developed on the northwest coast and settlements scattered on the east coast. During the Edo period, it was a whaling base centered on the Masutomi family, but now large-scale purse seine fishing for horse mackerel and mackerel is popular. There is a historic site of hidden Christians. In 1991, the Ikitsuki Ohashi Bridge was completed, connecting the island to Hirado Island. In October 2005, it was incorporated into Hirado City together with Kitamatsuura District's Tabira Town and Oshima Village. 16.56 ^km2 . 7,915 people (2003).

長崎県北松浦郡，平戸島の北西にある生月島全域を占める旧町。第三紀層をおおう玄武岩の島で，北西岸に海食崖が発達，東岸に集落が散在。江戸時代は益富家を中心とする捕鯨根拠地，現在はアジ・サバ大型巻網漁が盛ん。隠れキリシタンの史跡がある。1991年生月大橋が完成，平戸島と結ばれた。2005年10月北松浦郡田平町，大島村と平戸市へ編入。16.56km²。7915人（2003）。
