Tadashi Iizawa - Iizawa Question

Playwright, director, and novelist. His real name was Izawa Tadasu. He was born in Wakayama City, where his father, politician Izawa Takio, was posted. He began writing plays while studying at Bunka Gakuin, joining the theatre company Theatre Comedy. After graduating, he worked for the Asahi Shimbun Company, while also presenting satirical plays on current affairs, such as "The Ghost of Peking" (1943) and "The Battle of the Birds and the Beasts" (1944). After the Second World War, he established himself as a serious comedy playwright with "People of Mount Kunlun" (1950). After leaving Asahi in 1954 (Showa 29), he showed great activity in many areas, such as the radio children's program "Yanbo Ninbo Tonbo" (1954-1956), "Number Two" (1954), "Tower" (1960), "Five Moyono" (1967), and "Enku Fugue" (1973). His activities ranged from new drama and musicals to kyogen, kabuki, shinpa, and popular theater, and his works were full of topicality and rebellious spirit. He was also known as a master of short stories and criticism. He was a member of the Japan Art Academy.

劇作家、演出家、小説家。本名伊沢紀(いざわただす)。政治家伊沢多喜男を父に、その赴任先の和歌山市に生まれる。文化学院在学中から劇団テアトル・コメディに属して劇作を始め、卒業後朝日新聞社に勤務のかたわら『北京(ペキン)の幽霊』（1943）、『鳥獣合戦』（1944）などの時局風刺劇を発表した。第二次世界大戦後『崑崙(こんろん)山の人々』（1950）で本格的な喜劇作家の地位を確立、1954年（昭和29）朝日退社後は縦横の活躍を示し、ラジオ児童番組『ヤン坊ニン坊トン坊』（1954～1956）をはじめ、『二号』（1954）、『塔』（1960）、『五人のモヨノ』（1967）、『円空遁走(とんそう)曲』（1973）などの話題作を発表。その活躍は新劇、ミュージカルから狂言、歌舞伎(かぶき)、新派、大衆劇の分野にまで及び、作品は時事性と反骨精神に富んでいた。短編小説、評論の名手としても知られた。日本芸術院会員。
