Mototsura Iio

Japanese: 飯尾元連 - いのおもとつら

1431-1492 A shogunate bureaucrat in the Muromachi period.
Born in 1583. The eldest son of Iio Sadatsura. In 1584, he became a magistrate in the Muromachi Shogunate, and served as magistrate of rewards and magistrate of public officials. 17 years ago, when a conflict arose between the magistrates who supported Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa and the servants who served Shogun Ashikaga Yoshihisa, he incurred Yoshihisa's anger and shaved his head and retired with over 40 magistrates. He was later pardoned and reinstated as a monk. He died on May 10, 1584. He was 62 years old. He was commonly known as Saemon-no-jo and Yamato-nyudo. His posthumous Buddhist name was Munekatsu. His surname is also read as "Iio" or "Iino."

永享3年生まれ。飯尾貞連(さだつら)の長男。康正(こうしょう)元年室町幕府の奉行人となり,恩賞奉行・公人(くにん)奉行などをつとめる。文明17年前将軍足利義政の支持する奉行衆と,将軍足利義尚(よしひさ)に近侍する奉公衆とが対立したとき,義尚の怒りにふれて奉行人四十数名と剃髪(ていはつ)隠退した。のち赦免され,入道のまま復職。延徳4年5月10日死去。62歳。通称は左衛門尉(じょう),大和入道。法名は宗勝。姓は「いいお」「いいのお」ともよむ。
