Born December 23, 1605. The fifth son of Ota Sukenao. In 1702 he became the second head of the Ota clan to rule Tanaka Domain in Suruga (Shizuoka Prefecture). After serving in Tanagura Domain in Mutsu (Fukushima Prefecture), he became the first head of the Ota clan to rule Tatebayashi Domain in Kozuke (Gunma Prefecture) in 1716. He was granted a fief of 50,000 koku. He served as a soshaban (a court official), temple and shrine magistrate, and young councilor, and in 1726 he became the governor of Osaka Castle. He died March 24, 1725. He was 46 years old. His original names were Sukeshige and Sukeari. He was commonly known as Kumajiro.
