Chemical formula: C 12 H 16 O 7 . A type of phenolic glycoside. It is found in the leaves of Ericaceae plants such as Uva-ursi and Cowberry. It forms colorless needle-like crystals. Its melting point is 142°C (containing one molecule of water of crystallization) and 200°C (anhydrous). It is easily soluble in water. It turns blue with ferric chloride.
