2-chloro-4-ethylamino-6-isopropyl amino-1,3,5-triazine. C 8 H 14 ClN 5 (215.69). Also called gesaprim. It is obtained by reacting cyanuric chloride with equimolar amounts of ethylamine and isopropylamine in the presence of a base. Colorless powder. Melting point 175.8 °C. Water solubility 33 mg L -1 (20 °C). Atrazine is a Hill reaction inhibitor that inhibits photosynthetic electron transport. It exerts herbicidal activity by binding to the D 1 protein of photosystem II and inhibiting the binding of plastoquinone. Biochemical research reagent. LD 50 3080 mg/kg (rat, oral). [CAS 1912-24-9]
