Net whaling

...Whales have been extremely valuable animals for human beings since ancient times, as their oil was used for lighting, their meat was eaten, and their bones and innards were used to produce fertilizer. During the time of Wada Soemon (later known as Kakuemon), the grandson of Wada Yorimoto, who put whaling on the right track, net whaling was developed, and the first golden age of Japanese whaling history was established in 1875 (Enpo 3). Net whaling is a unique method in which a whale is first surrounded with a net when it is found, and then a harpoon is thrown to capture it, and it reached its peak in 1820-30.
