Cacomistle - To surround (English spelling)

It is an animal of the order Carnivora, family Procyonidae, class Mammalia. In English it is called the ring-tailed cat, and in Japanese it is called the big-eared raccoon to distinguish it from the black-footed raccoon (Marumimikakomisuru), another species of the same genus. It is found in the western part of North America, south of Oregon, and in Mexico. It lives alone on rocky areas with trees growing in mountainous areas above 3,000 meters above sea level. Its body length is 30-40 cm, and its tail length is 31-44 cm. Its body is gray-brown with a white underside, and its tail is black with 7-8 prominent white rings. Its ears are large and triangular, and its face resembles a fox. Its body shape is slender, and it looks like a squirrel. It is nocturnal, and its main diet consists of small mammals, birds, eggs, insects, and fruit. It has a gestation period of two months, and 2-4 babies are born in May-June. 別種のクロアシカコミスルB. sumichrastiは、メキシコ南部からパナマにかけて分布する。オオミミカコミスルより大形で、耳の先は丸い。カコミスルの名は、メキシコでの呼び名に由来する。
