The prehistory of the Jewish people begins with the migration of Abraham, a Hebrew chosen by God, to Canaan (later Palestine) at the beginning of the 2nd millennium BCE. The nomadic Abraham received a promise from God to give the land of Canaan to his descendants (the Abrahamic Covenant). Based on this covenant, Canaan became the Promised Land for the chosen Jewish people.
