...In turbojet engines, jet noise is the largest source of noise, but in high bypass turbofan engines, fan noise (rotational noise) is greater, so noise generation is reduced by increasing the spacing between the moving blades and the stationary blades, and by lining the inner and outer peripheral walls of the flow passages, such as before and after the fan and after the turbine, with resonant sound-absorbing panels such as perforated honeycomb panels to reduce noise radiation.

When the Mach number becomes large at supersonic speeds, the optimum pressure ratio corresponding to the maximum temperature of the cycle can be obtained by inlet ram compression alone. Taking advantage of this, a jet engine that uses only ram compression at the inlet and does not require a compressor or a turbine to drive the compressor is called a ramjet engine (Figure 3).
