Born on November 3, 1850. He was hospitalized at Sugamo Hospital (later Matsuzawa Hospital) for 56 years from 1881, and became the subject of much discussion due to his delusional behavior. He called himself General Ashihara, wore formal attire with gold braids, and charged an audience fee. He died on February 2, 1937. He was 88 years old.
