1925‐94 A Soviet actor. He began his acting career in Krasnoyarsk in 1945, and moved around to various regional theaters, including in Volgograd, until 1955, when he began appearing in films. In 1957 he became an actor at the Bolshoi Drama Theater in Leningrad, where he demonstrated his true talent by showing delicate psychological expression in the role of Myshkin in "The Idiot." After working at the Maly Theater in Moscow, he later joined the Moscow Art Theatre. He is well known in Japan for his work in films such as "Hamlet" and "Tchaikovsky."
