The production process is divided into separate tasks and can be broadly divided into oyster seedling collection, mother oyster cultivation, and pearl cultivation. Young oyster seedling collection is mainly carried out in southern Ehime Prefecture and western Kochi Prefecture, where bundles of cedar branches are hung in the sea in June and pearl oyster larvae are attached to them. They are then taken up in late August and placed in cages for cultivation.
