Acrylic rubber

A general term for synthetic rubber whose main component is acrylic ester (ethyl ester, butyl ester, etc.). The abbreviation according to ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standards is ACM. It is a type of special rubber and is also called polyacrylate rubber. A typical example is a copolymer of acrylic ester and 2-chloroethyl vinyl ether. It is synthesized by emulsion polymerization, and crosslinking is performed with amines. An acrylic ester and allyl glycidyl ether copolymer is crosslinked by the reaction of epoxy side chains with amines. Synthetic rubber made from acrylic esters containing fluorine is classified as fluororubber. Rubber synthesized from acrylic esters and butadiene can be vulcanized with sulfur and metal soap. ACM is particularly excellent in heat resistance and oil resistance, and can withstand oil at 170°C. Since it does not contain double bonds in the main chain, it also has good weather resistance and ozone resistance. However, its cold resistance, rebound resilience, abrasion resistance, water resistance, and electrical properties such as insulation are inferior to other oil-resistant rubbers. Applications include packing, seals, gaskets and hoses in automobiles and industrial machinery.

アクリル酸エステル（エチルエステルやブチルエステルなど）を主成分とする合成ゴムの総称。ASTM（アメリカ材料試験協会）の規格による略称はACM。特殊ゴムの一つでポリアクリレートゴムともいう。アクリル酸エステルと2-クロロエチルビニルエーテルの共重合体が代表的である。乳化重合で合成され、架橋はアミン類で行う。アクリル酸エステルとアリルグリシジルエーテル共重合体はエポキシ側鎖とアミン類の反応で橋架けする。フッ素を含むアクリル酸エステルから製造される合成ゴムは、フッ素ゴムに分類される。アクリル酸エステルとブタジエンから合成されるゴムは、硫黄(いおう)と金属せっけんで加硫ができる。ACMはとくに耐熱性と耐油性が優れ、170℃の油中でも十分耐える。主鎖中に二重結合を含まないので耐候性や耐オゾン性もよい。しかし、耐寒性、反発弾性、耐摩耗性、耐水性および絶縁などの電気特性が他の耐油性ゴムより劣る。用途は、自動車や産業機械関係のパッキング、シール、ガスケットおよびホースなどである。
