Actinium series - Actinium series

A series of naturally occurring radioactive elements that begins with the uranium isotope ²³⁵ U (actinouran), undergoes seven alpha decays and four beta decays to finally reach the stable lead isotope ²⁰⁷ Pb (actinium D). It is called the actinium series because it passes through ²²⁷ Ac along the way. It is also called the actinouran series because it begins with actinouran. The mass numbers of nuclides, or atomic species, that belong to this series always leave a remainder of 3 when divided by 4, so it is also called the 4n+3 series. It is naturally found in uranium minerals along with the uranium series, but its amount is said to be about 4.5% of the uranium series.

天然に存在する放射性元素の系列の一つで、ウランの同位体²³⁵U（アクチノウラン）から始まって、α(アルファ)崩壊を7回、β(ベータ)崩壊を4回繰り返して最後に鉛の安定同位体²⁰⁷Pb（アクチニウムD）となる系列である。このとき途中で²²⁷Acを通過するのでアクチニウム系列という。アクチノウランから始まるのでアクチノウラン系列ともいう。この系列に属する核種、すなわち原子種の質量数を4で割るとつねに3余るので4n＋3系列ともいわれる。天然にはウランの鉱物中にウラン系列とともにみいだされるが、その量はウラン系列の4.5％程度であるとされている。
