A drug that promotes rooting when cutting or bud cutting. At a concentration of 20 ppm, the plant hormone auxin (indole-3-acetic acid, abbreviated IAA) has the activity of inducing adventitious roots in cuttings of plant stems and buds. Similar activity is observed in many synthetic auxins, which are used in practice as rooting agents. Rooting agents registered as pesticides in Japan include indolebutyric acid, α-naphthylacetamide (brand name Luton), 5-chloro- 1H -3-indazolyl acetate (generic name ethychlozate, brand names Luchiace, Figaron), calcium peroxide (brand name Calper), and isoprothiolane (brand name Fujione, fungicide), and α-naphthaleneacetic acid, which is not registered.
