Akasaka Township

...Although flat areas are scattered along the coast, most of the area is forested and wild. Since the Middle Ages, it has been called Akasaka-go, and its center, Akasaka-Nakano, was a key location on the highway connecting Tanagura and Asakawa in the Nakadori area with Nakoso in the Hamadori area. Konjac potato and tobacco leaf cultivation and livestock farming are thriving, and since 1975 the Abukuma Mountains Development Project has been underway, opening up pastures and pastureland.
