The practice of restricting the harvesting of seaweed, fish, shellfish, and other marine products to a certain period of time. This is also called hama no guchi aki, umi ori, or su ga tachi. In contrast, the prohibited period is called iso no kuchidome or agari. Methods vary from area to area.
