Red crab - Red crab

This crab belongs to the order Decapoda, class Crustacea, family Portunidae. It is found south of Sagami Bay, in the South China Sea, Australia, and India, and lives on the seabed at depths of 30 to 50 meters. Its carapace is about 8 centimeters wide and egg-shaped, and its surface is densely covered with short hairs. It has six pointed teeth on the calyx and six triangular teeth on the front edge of the carapace. Its carapace is deep pink, with one light-colored pattern on each side on the rear edge. Its claws are long and have four spines on the front edge of the long segments. The closely related species, Ch. riversandersoni , does not have short hairs on its carapace. Both species are edible, but there are not many of them in existence.
