International Commission on Radiological Protection : An international organization whose purpose is to make recommendations and report on the effects of radiation on the human body and other living organisms and on protection against them. Established in 1928 as the International Commission on X-Ray and Radium Protection, it changed its name to its current form in 1950. It expanded the scope of radiation it covers to include all ionizing radiation, not just X-rays and radium. Its secretariat is in Ottawa. International Commission on Radiological Protection.
