Around 1490 - 1525
A knight of the German Empire and a leader of the peasant movement. He served the Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights from 1519 to 1523, and served abroad, during which time he became a Lutheran. With the outbreak of the German Peasants' War in 1525, he emerged as the leader of the Taubertal peasant group, and with his diplomatic skills won over many cities to his side. After the peasant group's defeat, he was assassinated on June 10 by a group sent by his father-in-law. Later, he was sung about in plays and poems as a folk hero. [Sehara Yoshio]
