1779‐1835 Qajar dynasty politician and man of letters. His real name was Mirza Abū al-Qāsim. He served the Azerbaijani governor, Abbas Mirza, as deputy vizier (Qa'im maqam) in his court. He later became the vizier of the third shah, Mohammad Shah. He was also famous as a reformer of modern Persian prose. He criticized classical poetry, which was prone to verbose and ornate embellishments, and advocated simple and straightforward prose expression, writing his own collection of letters.
