...In 1610, the kingdom of Vijayanagar was established by Chāma Rāja IV, a ruler of Hadinadu. The kings all bore the title of Udaiyār (Wodeyār). Chikka Dēva Rāja, who ruled from 1672 to 1704, established a communications system and an administrative structure consisting of 18 departments, and led the kingdom to prosperity by expanding into southern India as far as Madurai. *Some of the terminology explanations that mention "Udaiyār" are listed below.
