…Directed by William Wyler (1902-81). A light-hearted and heartwarming romantic comedy about a love affair between a young princess (Audrey Hepburn) from a certain country on a goodwill trip to Europe and an American newspaper reporter (Gregory Peck), set against the beautiful tourist sites of Rome. The original story was written by Dalton Trumbo (1905-76), who was on the blacklist during the Red Scare, under the pseudonym Ian McLellan Hunter. It was awarded the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, and in recent years, a second draft written in 1951 by Ben Hecht (1893-1964) has been discovered in the library of Indiana University. …
