Also called a cable-laying ship. A ship used to lay and bury communication and power cables on the seabed, and to raise, repair, and rebury damaged cables. In order to tow the cable-burial machine along a set route, it is often equipped with precision equipment such as a ship positioning device and sonar. The cable is fed from a pulley installed at the bow or stern to the cable-burial machine through a guide ring, which is called a guide ring today. ケーブル敷設船ともいう。海底に通信用や電力用のケーブルを敷設,埋設したり,損傷ケーブルなどを引き揚げ修理し再埋設する目的に使用される船。定められたルートに沿ってケーブル埋設機を曳引するため,船位測定装置やソナーなどの精密機器を装備する場合が多い。敷設ケーブルは,船首端あるいは船尾に設けられた滑車から,きょう導環と呼ぶガイドリングを通って埋設機に供給され,滑車は波浪による衝撃を避けるため船内格納式となる場合もある。
