A German camera and optical equipment manufacturer founded by Leitz I in 1849. In 1913, Oskar Barnack developed a still camera using 35mm film, establishing Leica's position as a camera manufacturer. In July 2001, the company announced a collaboration with Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. in the field of digital cameras.
