Lențeşti (English spelling)

...In the early 16th century, the Ottoman Empire resettled the Tatars (Mongolian inhabitants of the Crime Khanate) in the southeast of Moldova (Budjak region), reducing Moldova's territory. Seeing Moldova's plight and the expansion of Ottoman power, the Polish king attacked Moldova in 97, but with the help of Transylvanian, Wallachian and Ottoman troops, he defeated them in the Battle of Lențețti. After that, a treaty was concluded with Poland in 99 to ensure peace, but in his later years Stephen came to believe that he would have to recognize the Sultan's sovereignty if he could obtain autonomy and territorial security.
