...A sport in which opponents wearing gloves on both hands fight each other in a ring with ropes stretched over it to determine the winner. In Japan, it has also been called boxing.

[origin]
According to John G. Grombach, an American boxing expert, the technique of punching with closed fists was first systematized in what is now Ethiopia. The prototype of boxing, which was practiced as a training for soldiers more than 10,000 years ago, was later introduced to Egypt, Crete, and Greece, where it became popular.
