Medial moraine (English spelling)

...the bottom of a glacier is filled with rock debris produced by the erosion and abrasion of the glacier, which is then sandwiched between the glacier and the glacial bed. This is called a ground moraine. In the case of a valley glacier, the moraine that is carried along the side wall is called a lateral moraine, and when two glaciers join together, one of the lateral moraines is carried in the center of the joined glaciers and is called a median moraine. The central and lateral moraines are also called surface moraines because they are carried on the surface of the glacier.
