...The religion was founded by the Iranian Mirza Ḥoseyn 'Ali (1817-92), who called himself Baha' Allah. He was born into a noble family in Tehran, and after the proclamation of the Bab by Seyyed Ali Mohammad in 1844, he became one of the earliest Babi believers and played a leading role, but was arrested and imprisoned during the great persecution in 1852.
