...The Galician United Church had almost disappeared by 1946. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church was in turmoil under the Catholic offensive, but in the first half of the 17th century, it experienced a period of revival thanks to the efforts of Pyotr Mogila, Metropolitan of Kiev. However, at the end of the 17th century, when the Russian Empire annexed Ukraine, the Kiev Metropolitan came under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate.

...Russian seminary. It was established in 1631 by Metropolitan Pyotr Simeonovich Mogila (1596-1647) in the Pechersk Lavra (Kiev Monastery of the Caves), and continued to exist as a theological university until 1817. The Russian Orthodox Church under Polish rule was under attack from the Catholic Church, which was under attack from the Catholic Church for its efforts to unite the churches as part of the Counter-Reformation. Mogila, who had received his education in the West, instead adopted Latin theological methods to strengthen the position of the Orthodox Church.
