Japanese: 猪飼 - いがい

The name of a place in Ise Province. Currently Tado Town, Kuwana County, Mie Prefecture. Located on the north bank of the Hijie River. Together with Chikarao and Kita-Ikai, it was once called the Three Villages of Ikai. The area is home to the famous Tado Shrine and its shrine temple, both listed in the Engishiki Shinmeicho (Divine Name Book), and was involved in the rituals and other activities of the shrine as its divine territory. According to the Tado Shrine Grand Festival Rules and Regulations from 1794 (Kansei 6), on the occasion of the grand festival on May 5th, parishioners from seven villages, including the three villages of Ikai, perform the rituals as ancient divine territory residents. In the early modern period, it was the territory of the Kuwana Domain. Currently, the remains of a medieval castle remain in Kita-Ikai, but in the late Middle Ages, this area was the site of a northern uprising by local lords centered around the Muromachi Shogunate's Imperial Estate, and Ikai Castle is believed to have been the castle of the Ogushi clan, a member of that group.

伊勢国の地名。現在は三重県桑名郡多度町。肱江（ひじえ）川の北岸に位置。力尾（ちからお），北猪飼とともに猪飼三ヵ村と呼ばれたこともある。近隣に《延喜式》神名帳の名神大社多度神社および同神宮寺をもち，その神領地として祭祀等にかかわった。1794年(寛政6)の《多度神大祭御神事規式簿》によれば，5月5日の大祭に際し，猪飼三ヵ村を含む7ヵ村の氏子が往古の神領民として神事を勤仕している。近世は桑名藩領。現在，北猪飼に中世城郭跡が残るが，中世後期の当地方は室町幕府御料所を中心に国人層による北方一揆が成立しており，この猪飼城はそのメンバー小串氏の城郭と推定される。
