Amount of relief - Kifukuryo

A geomorphological term. An index of elevation difference within a certain range. There are three ways of expressing it: (1) The difference in elevation between the highest point and the lowest point within a unit area. (2) The relative height between adjacent mountain peaks and valley floors. (3) The difference in elevation between abrupt peaks and valley faces. Method (1) is generally used. If a small unit area is used in (1), it ends up being an index similar to slope. There are various ways of determining the unit area, with the growth curve method being the most representative. It is possible to classify terrain based on the distribution of relief.

地形学用語。一定範囲内の高低差を表す指標。3種の表現方法がある。(1)単位面積内の最高点と最低点との高度差。(2)隣接する山頂と谷底との比高。(3)切峰面と切谷面との高度差。一般には(1)の方法を採用することが多い。(1)で単位面積を小さくとると、結局は傾斜と同じような指標になる。単位面積のとり方には種々なくふうがなされ、成長曲線による方法が代表的である。起伏量の分布により地形分類が可能である。
