Paludanus

…He stayed in the Azores from 1589 to 1591 as a representative of the German merchant family Fugger. In 1592 he returned to Enkhuizen and, with the help of Dr. Paludanus of the same city, published the vast amount of material he had collected as “A Portuguese Journey to the East” and “A Guide” (both in 1596). These books exposed the true state of the East trade, in which Portugal had monopolized and made huge profits, and stimulated the Dutch enthusiasm for sailing to India. They also proved to be a very influential travel guide, and were translated into German, French, and other languages. …
