A river in the northeastern part of the Indochina Peninsula. It is 805 km long. Its name means "red river" in Vietnamese. It is also known as the Red River or the Hong Ha River. The water is red due to the iron oxide contained in the water. It originates in Yunnan Province, China, flows southeast, and joins the parallel Song Bo River (Black River) northwest of Hanoi to form the Tonkin Delta, which empties into the Gulf of Tonkin. The Tonkin Delta is a world-famous rice-producing region, where multiple crops are widely cultivated. It also has a well-developed canal network.

インドシナ半島北東部の川。全長805km。名はベトナム語で〈赤い川〉の意。紅河，ホンハ川とも。水中に含まれる酸化鉄のため水の色が赤い。中国雲南省に発して南東流，ハノイ北西で並行するソンボー川（黒河）を合わせ，トンキン・デルタを形成してトンキン湾に注ぐ。トンキン・デルタは世界的な米産地で，多期作がひろく行われる。また運河網が発達している。
