The highest mountain in Greece. It is 2,917 meters above sea level. In modern Greek, it is called Olympus. It faces the Gulf of Thessaloniki and forms the border between Macedonia and Thessaly. However, in ancient times, there were many mountains called by this name, and it is thought that in the native Greek language it meant "mountain" or "cliff". In mythology, Zeus and other gods built their palaces on the summit. Therefore, Zeus is often called "Olympian", and the Olympic games dedicated to him were called the Olympian Games (Olympias), and the place where they were held was Olympia.
