Grasshopper (Gampsocleis buergeri)

An insect of the Tettigoniidae family in the Orthoptera order (illustration). One of the most familiar chirping insects. Males make the sound "Chongise, chongise" intermittently during the day. Body length is around 40 mm. Body color is green or brown, with beautiful green areas on the forewings in particular and black-brown spots. The head is large and the top is not pointed. The eyes are round. The mouthparts are well developed and a bite is painful. The pronotum is also large and saddle-shaped. The forewings are somewhat short, around 24 mm long, with their tips moving back and forth over the abdominal tip. The left wing, which has a friction protrusion on the underside, is on top and makes the sound by rubbing it against the right wing.

直翅目キリギリス科の昆虫（イラスト）。鳴く虫としてなじみ深い虫の一つ。雄は日中チョンギース，チョンギースと断続的に発音する。体長40mm内外。体色は緑色または褐色，とくに前翅は美しい緑色部をもち，また黒褐色の斑点がある。頭部は大きく，頭頂はとがらない。眼は丸い。口器はよく発達し，かみつかれると痛い。前胸背板も大きく，鞍型。前翅の長さは24mm内外でやや短めで，その先端が腹端部を前後する程度。前翅は裏面に摩擦突起のある左翅が上になり，これを右翅とこすりあわせて発音する。
