In Hebrew it is called Beit Haniya, and in Arabic it is called Aizariyya. A small village on the eastern foot of the Mount of Olives near Jerusalem. According to the New Testament, the village is the home of Razan and his sisters Martha and Mary, and the home of Simon the leper, which Jesus visited. A church was built in at least the 3rd century, but most of it is in ruins. It was part of Jordan until 1967, but has been occupied by Israel since the Six-Day War. Population 6,126 (1991).
