...It was introduced westward by the Roman Empire to the whole of Europe and England, and became popular among all classes after the Middle Ages. The squares changed to elongated triangles, and it was called table, tavola, tricktrack, puffspiel, table, and backgammon after the 17th century, but they are all the same game. Backgammon is still the most commonly played board game in Europe and the Middle East.
