…Theories of crime etiology can be divided into two types: the multifactorial theory, which sees crime as arising from the interaction between disposition and the environment, and the integrated theory, which explains the process of crime in a unified and comprehensive manner, as in the general theory of crime and delinquency in the American sociology of crime. The multifactorial theory was systematized in Europe in the first half of the 20th century by G. Aschaffenburg and others, but was later made more thorough by the multifactor theory of Glück and others who quantified the various factors of delinquency and conducted research on delinquency prediction in the United States. The results of the multifactor theory are of great use in clarifying the causes of delinquency in individual delinquents and in the practical demand of corrective treatment, but the theoretical aspect of explaining the relationship between many factors is insufficient. …

…犯罪原因論は，犯罪は素質と環境との相互作用から生じるとし，このような諸要因を複合的に犯罪の原因とみる〈多元的原因論〉と，上記のアメリカ犯罪社会学の犯罪･非行に関する一般理論のように犯罪の発生過程を一元的･総合的に説明する〈統合的原因論〉とに分けることができる。多元的原因論は20世紀前半のヨーロッパでアシャッフェンブルクG.Aschaffenburgなどによって体系化をみたが，その後アメリカで非行の諸因子を数量化して非行予測の研究を行ったグリュックなどの多元因子論においていっそう徹底したものとなった。多元因子論の成果は個々の非行者の非行原因の解明とその矯正処遇という実践上の要請に資するところが大きいが，多数の因子相互の関連を説明する理論的側面は十分でない。…
