Pierre de l'Estoile

Japanese: レトアール(英語表記)Pierre de l’Estoile
Pierre de l'Estoile
1546‐1611
French chronicler. He recorded the social situation in France from 1574 to 1610 in a "daily memoir," and became a witness to his times. Born to a noble family of robes in Orléans, he studied at the University of Paris, and during the social upheaval under the reign of Henry III, he settled into a very obscure position in the legal profession of Paris. He wrote detailed records of social events, anecdotes, and customs, big and small, in the form of a "diary," claiming to be taking notes of events that happened around him for his own records and out of curiosity.
