...An insect of the order Plecoptera and family Towadaidae. A rather large stonefly with a unique shape that is completely wingless. Body length is about 20 mm. This species has primitive anatomical features. The whole body is shiny dark brown, with both sides of the thorax slightly yellowish. It is found only in central Honshu and north, Hokkaido, and the Korean peninsula. Adults appear in autumn. This species was named after Lake Towada, where it was first collected. The shape of the larva is exactly the same as that of the adult, but it can be easily distinguished from the adult by the ring of filamentous gills at the end of the abdomen. ...
