An international road network in Asia with a planned total length of 42 routes and 90,000 km. Of these, 5 routes (40,000 km) are international trunk routes, and 37 routes (50,000 km) are regional trunk routes, passing through 25 countries. Since 1959, the Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East (ECAFE, later ESCAP) has played a central role in promoting the network with financial assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The network will connect 18 countries in total: 3 Middle Eastern countries such as Iran, 4 South Asian countries such as India, 8 Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia, and the newly joined countries of China, Mongolia and Myanmar.
