A former town in Masuda County, eastern Gifu Prefecture. Most of the town area is mountainous, with nearly 70% of the forests being national forest, and logging of cypress and other trees is popular. The main settlement is at the confluence of the Masuda River and the Kosaka River, and the Takayama Main Line runs through it, allowing timber to be collected and distributed. There are hot springs such as Yuya, Shitajima, and Nigorikawa, and the trailhead on the Mino side of Mount Ontake, towering at the eastern end of the town. In March 2004, the town merged with Hagiwara Town, Gero Town, Kanayama Town, and Maze Village in Masuda County to form Gero City. 247.50 km2 . 4,000 people (2003).Kosaka [town] [Kosaka]Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
